Basic Driver Training

Murrumbateman LeaseThe Basic Driver Training Course is conducted over three days; a weekend at our club property, Talooge Park, that includes an overnight camp; and a follow-up day, or assessment, in the Brindabella National Park.

Basic Driver TrainingThe follow-up day is designed for drivers to demonstrate driving and recovery skills acquired during the first weekend. Each student is assigned an instructor, who sits in the passenger seat, for the duration of the course.

Instructor / Student FeedbackThe course is a pre- requisite for all Club trips rated at Level 2 and above. Our professional Driver Training Team offer a range of advanced training courses in support of the Club's mission, to increase driver confidence and safety, while remaining cognisant of our fragile environment.

Club meeting venue has now changed to the Canberra Deakin Sports Club Grose St Deakin.

The Club is based in Canberra, the National Capital of Australia, and is the largest 4WD Club in the region. The Club was established in 1976, currently has some 300 members, plus partners and families, and is for owners of traditional 4 wheel drive vehicles.

Improving driver skills through training is an important aim of our club. A range of driver education courses at basic and advanced levels are provided; basic training for novices is a prerequisite for participation in Club trips, while the advanced training is recommended for drivers when they have gained more experience and want to develop competence and confidence in negotiating more challenging terrain.

Trips conducted throughout the year may vary from one day or across a weekend to scenic and mountainous areas around the south coast, central highlands and Victorian alpine country. Longer trips to Cape York, Simpson Desert, Kimberleys and many other destinations are organised on a seasonal basis. These trips, together with a series of social functions, are all planned to provide club members with safe, enjoyable and rewarding recreational experiences. Family involvement is encouraged at all Club functions including Basic Driver training.
